Variety Of Cross Stitch Fabrics


Since the early centuries, cross stitch fabrics have been used as an integral part of needlework crafts. Think of your fabric as a canvas where you stitch your designs to create beautiful artworks. However, which fabric should you use?

With a variety of cross stitch fabrics, you might find it hard to pick the right one for your new project. By knowing the most common types of cross stitch fabrics you'll be able to identify which one is right for you.

* Aida cloth is popular and in-demand due to the tiny holes that are laid down as grid patterns. The size of the aida cloth is determines the spacing of the holes. The larger the size of the cloth, the closer the holes are to each other, and vice versa.

You'll often hear that it's better to use a smaller aida cloth since it is easier to use and work on. If you wish to create detailed designs, you may use a larger sized cloth. This type of fabric comes in various colors which can be dyed, solid, or with prints. Generally, this fabric is very easy to use. By placing your needle in the holes, you are sure to make the perfect "x" stitches every time.

* Linen usually has a basket weave form with grid lines that are difficult to notice. It is not easy to create straight stitches using this fabric. Beginners are often advised to use other fabrics to since linen is typically made for the experts. You'll need to stitch the "x" over two squares instead of just one. But if you are an expert and you wish to create more detailed designs, then you should use linen.

* Afghan cloth - This type of fabric is the softer and larger version of aida cloth. It has the same size of a small afghan throw, hence the name. Its edges may be completed and it may also have a design that separates and forms into small squares. Allowing every square to have a varied design and pattern.

Creating needlecraft artwork is not a problem especially when you have many choices in cross stitch fabrics. Whichever you choose, it is important that you understand their purposes and advantages to help you create beautiful artworks all the time.
