Various Cross Stitch Kits You Can Choose From
There's a lot of items and reasons to enjoy when you're shopping at crafts stores. But many folks find it time-consuming and sometimes challenging to choose the right pattern, fabric, thread, kits and other supplies. Start by choosing from the types of cross stitch kits that are offered in the store. And by familiarizing with each type, you'll be able to identify the right one for your next project.
Below are the 4 types of cross stitch kits:
* Embellished Cross Stitch Kit
The fabric used for this type of kit usually has a design printed on it. This only leaves a few sections on the fabric for you to stitch or accent.
The good thing about this type of kit is that you can cross stitch faster since you do not need to do the entire print. But you may find that the patterns printed on the fabric are not straight. Not everyone likes the finished product, though, since they are not as good as non-embellished cross stitch.
* Counted Cross Stitch Kit
This type of kit has stitches done on a blank aida cloth. A chart is typically provided wherein you need to count the squares on the cloth to identify the location of the stitches. Some people choose to start at the middle of the fabric based on the symbol in the middle of their patterns. By counting the number of stitches of the symbol of the pattern, you can place the actual stitches on the fabric.
Stiches on the aida cloth usually look uniform for counted cross stitch kits; thus, making the finished works more appreciable. One caveat is that you may lose count while stitching, so be mindful of the possible errors. Correcting the wrong stitches can be done by pulling them out of the aida cloth and recounting the stitches you'll make.
* No-count Cross Stitch Kit
The fabric on this type of kit has stitching outlines already printed and you are provided with a color chart to help you make the actual "x" stitches.
It is possible to work faster with this kit since you don't have to count to determine the first stitch and where to place the stitches. However, it is similar to embellished cross stitch kit because there are times that the printed pattern on the fabric is not straight; resulting to crooked stitches.
* Stamped Cross Stitch Kit
The cloth used in this type of kit is usually printed with a colored design that helps in the actual stitching and the colors to use. Stamped cross stitch kits are beneficial mostly for simple designs that call for fewer colors.
If you prefer to use a stamped cross stitch kit, you have the discretion to not to use a chart/pattern in determining the stitches. There are also fewer errors compared to the counted cross stitch. One bad thing about this type is that if the printed colors on the fabric are very similar, it will be difficult to determine the exact shade or color to use.
If you are new to cross stitching, it is best to try out simple cross stitch kits to help you learn the craft. Trying other kits and comparing their results as you learn the process can also help you in determining which will work for your skill level.
